History
of T.U.L.S.A.
In 1988, 25-30 men and women gathered together to socialize in the
name of friendship and the brotherhood/sisterhood of the leather
community. In August of that same year, Ron Greenwood, Rusty Cook,
Brian Messick and Dennis Wells had the idea to form the Tulsa Uniform
and Leather Seekers Association after attending the Great Plains
Drummer Contest and held their first meeting on October 29, 1988.
In October of 1989 the group held the first Mr. Oklahoma Leather
contest, in which Pat Sullivan won and went on to compete for the
title of International Mr. Leather 1990. The association continued
to grow and educate the community about the leather lifestyle, and
included such members as Vi Johnson and Jill Carter. Larry Everett,
Mr. Oklahoma Leather 1994 went to Chicago to compete as our representative
for the international title and became the first Oklahoman to be
awarded the title of International Mr. Leather 1995. The association’s
contest was renamed in 1997 to the Oklahoma Mr. Leather contest.
